【LEE CHAN MIN 2019 Do-Kae-Bi(道快碑)展】
会期：2019年8月6日（火）～8月11日（日）

韓国 釜山で活動する作家・LEE CHAN MINによる個展です。

韓国の慶尚南道あたりで通称「Do-Kae-Bi（道快碑／ドゥッケビ）」と呼ばれるゴブリンをモチーフとした、陶芸による自画像作品を展示しています。

日本ではゴブリンというと鬼のように邪悪なものである印象がありますが、韓国ではユーモラスで友好的なオバケとして認識されているそうです。それは時に「プラス思考」や「良く生きようとする前向きな意志」などを表す概念的なものとしても考えられるそうです。

今回は首から上の頭部を表したオブジェや、顔の一部を型取りして制作した作品など、様々な形態の自画像を発表します。

また自画像をつくった時の残りの土で制作した、小さな人型の石碑も多数展示しています。

Do-Kae-Bi

Goblin which I want to make doesn’t mean a phrase referred to as Gyeongsangnamdo dialect ‘Do Kae Bi’, but shows self-portrait,as a memorial stone seeking and enjoying the truth.
Ordinally, a goblin is misunderstood as Japanese ‘Oni’ which bullies people, Korean traditional Do Kkae Bi was humorous and friendly one who gave a prize to the good and did mischief to the bad.
It is said that everyone around you can be Do Kkae Bi, which is a warning about morality that ancestors wanted to give later generations through the story of Do Kkae Bi and represents humorous sense showing the preciousness of daily life.

Do Kae Bi which I have made is not an inessential shape of Korean Do Kkae Bi.

I think the meaning of Do Kkae Bi has something in common with ‘moral’ in these modern times when civilization has been developed fast and the most important morality has been lacked.
That is, ‘Do Kae Bi’ is my proposal that I want contemporary people to have a honest sight and be considerate of others’ feelings. Also, Do Kae Bi is a self-portrait as a one person who is a member of society and look it as well as warning about moral laxity which contemporary people have lost.
