OPEN YOUR EYES

人は、物理的な視覚を超えた感覚を常に発動して目の前の対象物と関わっている。

この人は心許せる、許せない、これは好き、嫌い、沢山あるりんごの中からどれを取るかの選択、など、どうしてそうなのかと明確に説明できない「感じ」というものを無意識に常時フル活動させている。

ポートレートを撮るとき、相手の身長体重、性別、年齢など視覚的要素がまず先に飛び込んでくる。それらを見た上で一つづつ視覚から排除していくと、最後に目の前の「存在」そのものが見えてくる。見えてくると言うより「感じ」てくる。

相手も同じように私の存在を感じ、視線の交わりは徐々に見ているのか見られているのかわからない状態になり、私と相手は融合していく。そこに境界線はない。

私はその時間を愛おしいと思い、その存在が見たくて写真を撮っている。

私は目を開けて、あなたになる。

あなたも目を開けて、私になる。

OPEN YOUR EYES

Humans constantly engage with the objects before them using senses beyond physical vision.

When you feel like you can open up your heart to this person, but you can’t to that person, or you like this one but don’t like that one,  and also when you make a decision on which apple to pick among many ones, you keep your “senses” active full-time, despite not being able to explain what they are clearly.

Every time I work on portrait photo shooting, visual factors capture my mind instantly, such as the person’s height, weight, gender, and age. And then, as I eliminate them one by one, the “existence” itself becomes visible before me. Rather than just seeing it, I start to “sense” it.

Then, the model also starts to feel my existence as the same as me, and our exchange of gazes creates the state in which I don’t know whether I am looking at or looked at. Now, the person and I will merge. There are no boundaries anymore.

I love that moment. I take photos because I want to see such existences.

I open my eyes and will become you.

You also open your eyes to become me.

 

田口るり子　Ruriko Taguchi

愛知県名古屋市出身。東京都在住。

2003年から独学で写真を始める。

その年の富士フォトサロン新人賞(2003年)の受賞を機に、写真家としての活動を始める。

以後、音楽関連、雑誌媒体などで撮影の仕事をしながら、一貫して女性を被写体としたテーマで作品を制作し、写真展や誌面で発表し続けている。

20才の時の母親の死をきっかけに、自分の生きている証を形にして残したいと言う思いから作品を作っている。女性を被写体にしている理由は、そこに自分自身を投影し、写真の中で被写体と共に生きる事ができるという思いがあるから。

主な作品に、女性の背中だけの肖像を集めた「形骸土木」(2010〜)、ヌードを景色のように見立てた「SCAPE」(2016〜)、祖母のドキュメンタリーポートレート「KIYOKO」(2017〜)、自身初のセルフヌードポートレート「CUT OFF」(2020)などがある。

Ruriko Taguchi

Currently based in Tokyo, Ruriko Taguchi was born on December 8, 1978 and grew up in Nagoya City of Aichi Prefecture.

She took up photography in 2003 through self-study. After winning the Fuji Photo Salon New Face Prize in the same year, she began working as a photographer.

While working as a photographer in the music and magazine industries, she has consistently produced themed works with women as her subject, regularly showing these with photography exhibitions and publications.

Since experiencing the death of her mother when she was 20, Taguchi has been driven by the desire to leave behind evidence of her life in the form of her works. Women are her subjects because she projects herself and feels that she can live alongside them in photos.

Her key works include: “Keigai Doboku (bare forms)” (2010–), which is a portrait collection of women’s backs; “SCAPE” (2016–), depicting nudes as scenery; “KIYOKO” (2017–),a series of portraits documenting her grandmother; and “CUT OFF” (2020), nude portraits of herself for the first time.

She is a member of the Japan Professional Photographers Society and the Japan Stage Photographers Society.
